Mary Ann Barkley, 79, Huntingburg

Mary Ann Barkley, 79, of Huntingburg, died Monday, August 5, at the Visiting Nurse Association of Northwest Indiana Hospice Center in Valparaiso. She was born in Jasper June 18, 1940, to Leo and Ella (Buechlein) Young. She married Donald C. Barkley November 8, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died March 28, 2016.

Mary Ann was a homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family including all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking, gardening, playing bingo, listening to music, and watching Westerns.

She is survived by seven daughters, Dee Hochgesang  and husband Dan and Rev. Becky Smith and husband Neal, all Huntingburg, Judy Fawks and husband Mike, Rose Barkley, and Sandra Blessinger and companion Steve Scherle, all of Jasper; Candace Kimes and husband Tom, Valparaiso, and Daphne Barkley and companion Bryan Brown, Evansville; six sons, Ed Barkley and wife Penny, Holland, Andy Barkley and wife Raquel, Jasper, and Paul Barkley and wife Carma, James Barkley and wife Carrie, Donnie Barkley and wife Patty, and Al Barkley and wife Tammy, all of Huntingburg; four sisters, Carol Krodel and husband Emil and Brenda Sander and husband Don, all of Jasper, Aleeta Gray, Petersburg, and Donna Jahn, Venice, Florida; 29 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Ella Young.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
