Dubois County Bombers Drop Game 1 of OVL Championship, Game 2 is Saturday Night at League Stadium

Hopkinsville (NNDC):   The Dubois County Bombers and Hoptown Hoppers opened up the Ohio Valley League Championship Series on Friday night in Hopkinsville, Ky.

Early on, it was all Dubois County as the Bombers led 4-0 heading into the bottom of the  6th inning.   Dubois County scored 1 run in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd but were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.  In the first inning, Chase Hug singled and scored.   The Bombers added 3 in the second inning thanks to a single by Tyler Best, a sac fly by Easton Corbin and a double by Chase Hug.  In the inning, Benji Brokemond, Matt Joslin and Zuriel Collins crossed the plate.

Hoptown pulled within a run in the bottom of the 6th inning as they plated 3.    The Hoppers were down 4-3 heading into the bottom of the  8th when 3 more runners crossed the plate.   Ben Huber reached on a double and scored when Michael Conn reached on an error.  Hunter Evans stepped up to the plate and hit a 2 run shot over the centerfield fence giving Hoptown a 6-4 lead.   The Bombers were unable to get a baserunner on in the 9th and fell to the Hoppers 6-4.

Benton McGill took the loss for Dubois County.   He allowed 3 hits and 3 runs over 2 1/3 innings, striking out 3 and walking none.   The Bombers had 11 hits in the game including 2 doubles by Matt Joslin and another by Chase Hug.   Joslin who went 3 for 4 on the night also had a triple.

Both teams return to action on Saturday night at League Stadium in the best of 3 series.    The Bombers need a win to force a game 3 in the OVL Championship.   Gates open at 6pm with first pitch set for 7pm.
