Carl Kent Burns, 76, Jasper

Carl Kent Burns, 76, of Jasper, died Friday, June 28, at his home. He was born in Princeton December 8, 1942, to Brady and Louise (Potter) Burns. He married Julie Pieper August 9, 1986, at Loogootee United Methodist Church.

Carl received his Bachelor’s Degree from Oakland City University and his Master’s Degree from Indiana University. He and his wife have owned and operated Pieper-Burns State Farm Insurance since 1987. Earlier he taught business at Shoals High School and later was an Associate Professor of Business at Vincennes University Jasper Center. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, loved his family, being at his home, bird watching, and Indiana University basketball.

He is survived by his wife Julie Burns; two sons, Kent Burns and wife Patti, Carmel, and Evan Burns, Indianapolis; one daughter, Andrea Jones and husband Aaron, Shoals;  seven grandchildren, Haley Thomas, Salt Lake City, Utal, Max Burns, Phoenix, Arizona, Abby Burns, Carmel, and Ava, Jaden, Austin, and Ethan (Morgan) Jones, all of Shoals; and two great-grandchildren, Savannah Thomas, Salt Lake City, and Walker Jones, Shoals,

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday and from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Shiloh United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Shiloh Church, Young Life, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church with burial following in Shiloh Cemetery.
