Randall L. Fischer, 60, Ferdinand

Randall L. Fischer, 60, of Ferdinand, died Friday, June 21, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand . He was born February 8, 1959, to Myron R. and Bernice E. (Begle) Fischer.

Randy was a long time employee of Masterbrand in Ferdinand and retired due to illness. He was a 1981 graduate of Indiana State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was a professional outdoor writer and had several articles published in popular outdoor magazines. For a period of time he had a column, “Roaming with Randy,” published in the Ferdinand News. It featured outdoor hunting and fishing activities. He enjoyed bowling and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He was a fan of Forest Park sports and the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2018 he was the recipient of the Karen Bell Caring Award presented by Scenic Hills for his inspiration to the Scenic Hills residents.

Randy is survived by his mother, Bernice Fischer, Ferdinand; two brothers, Glenn Fischer, St. Meinrad, and Stephen Fischer and wife DaNita, Jackson, Missouri; two sisters, Sabrina Verkamp and husband Deane, Ferdinand, and Connie Kluemper, Evansville;  five nieces; one nephew; two great-nieces; one great-nephew, five step-nephews; and one great-step-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Myron R. Fischer, one sister, Bernadette Fischer, and one brother, Chad Fischer.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. Funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
