Charlene R. Schitter, 75, Velpen

Charlene R. Schitter, 75, of Velpen, died Saturday, June 22, at her home. She was born in Washington October 3, 1943, to Charles and Mildred (Singleton) Perkins. She married Reginald “Reggie” Schitter November 11, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. He died January 7, 2011.

Charlene worked as a clerk for the Pike County Public Library for many years. She was a writer and enjoyed visiting local schools portraying and telling stories as Mary Todd Lincoln. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed reading, writing, genealogy, and spending time with her family and her beloved dog.

She is survived by two daughters, Ann Sutton and husband Joe, Petersburg, and Krissy Miles and fiancé Brett Nalley, Stendal; one son, Joe Schitter and wife Mary Beth, Newburgh; six grandchildren, Nicole and Chris Sutton, Sarah Sutton-Mota, Jamen Frederick, Conor Miles, and Morgan Schitter; and one sister, Sharon Himsel and husband Junie, Ireland.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Kortzendorf, and one brother, George Perkins.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Redeemer Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Pike County Public Library, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services at noon Saturday at the church with burial following at a later date in Shiloh Cemetery.
