Bernice Gerlach, 91, Huntingburg

Bernice Gerlach, 91, of Huntingburg, died Sunday, June 2, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born in Huntingburg March 11, 1928, to John A. and Rose (Hess) Lasher. She married Russel E. Gerlach September 20, 1949, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He died February 11, 2012.

Bernice worked as a medical and dental office receptionist; she was a member of St. Mary’s Church, VFW Post 2366 Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, and the Daughters of Isabella. She was a St. Louis Cardinals fan.

She is survived by one son, Kevin Gerlach and wife Marge, Crystal Lake, Illinois; two daughters, Martha Gerlach Fink and Cheryl Rauscher and husband Steve, all of Huntingburg; two brothers, Richard Lasher, Gulfport, Mississippi, and Charles Lasher, Lexington, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Stephanie Gerlach, Crystal Lake, Illinois, Jeremy Gerlach and wife Nikki, McHenry, Illinois, Jeffrey Rauscher and wife Laura, Clarksville, Tennessee, Emily Rauscher, College Station, Texas, and Nathan Rauscher and Mark Fink, both of Huntingburg; four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Jeff, Avery, and Cailyn Rauscher; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ardella Carson and Imelda Whitten, one brother, John C. Lasher; and one grandson, Matthew Fink.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg.  A parish rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. and a VFW Auxiliary vigil will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Church. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Ryan Hilderbrand.
