Southridge Wins Baseball Sectional – Jasper, Forest Park and Northeast Dubois Fall


Dubois County (NNDC) – The IHSAA Boys Baseball Tournament is in full swing as Sectional play began this past week.

In Class 2A at Mitchell, the Southridge Raiders dominated their first two opponents as the Raiders picked up an 11-0 win over Mitchell in 5 innings to open up Sectional play.   That win allowed them to play on Memorial Day against North Knox and Southridge disposed of the Warriors in a 12 noon matchup, 15-0 in five innings.   The championship game featured Southridge and Linton.   The Raiders upended the Miners 6-4 in a hard fought contest.   Southridge jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 3, Linton tied the game at 4 in the top of the 5th inning.   The Raiders answered back in the bottom of the 5th when Chase Taylor doubled and picked up 2 RBI’s which gave the Raiders a 2 run lead and eventual Sectional title.  With the win, the Raiders will play the Austin Eagles in game 2 of the Class 2A Regional this upcoming Saturday at League Stadium in Huntingburg.

In Class 2A at South Spencer, the Forest Park Rangers jumped out to a 3-0 lead over North Posey on Thursday night but could not hold on as the Vikings knocked the Rangers out of post season play by the score of 7-5.   The Rangers got to the semi-finals by defeating Evansville Mater Dei 10-8.   Forest Park finishes up the 2019 campaign with an 11-14 record.

In Class 3A at Evansville Reitz in a game featuring two top ten area teams, the Jasper Wildcats (#9)  lost to Castle (#8) in an extra inning barn burner.  The Knights move into the Sectional Championship game with a 10-7 (10 inning) win over Jasper.  The Wildcats close out the season with a 24-5 record.

In Class 1A at Tecumseh, the Northeast Dubois Jeeps faced the tournament host Braves on Memorial Day.   Tecumseh advances to the Class 1A Sectional Championship with a 4-0 win over the Jeeps, ending their season.
