Southridge Raiders Win Class 2A Softball Sectional

Linton (NNDC):  The Southridge Raiders became the 3rd softball team in Dubois County to win a Sectional Championship this week.   Jasper and Northeast Dubois punched their tickets to the Regional earlier this week as the Wildcats defeated Pike Central and Northeast Dubois picked up a win over Wood Memorial.   On Thursday night, it was Southridge who earned their title as they defeated the host Linton Minors 5-4 in 9 innings.

The Raiders trailed 3-1 until freshman Mikah Goeppner hit a two run homerun which also scored Peyton Nalley and tied the game at 3.   That’s where the game stayed until the 9th inning when Linton plated one giving them a 4-3 lead.   Southridge would score 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to earn the victory.   Megan Buechler singled and would eventually come around to score on a wild pitch.   Macie Marley and Kennedy Nalley were walked which brought Peyton Nalley to the plate who drove in Amanda Brewer from 3rd base to secure their first title since 2010.  With the win, the Raiders improve to 17-7 on the season under first year head coach Scott Buening and will face the Tecumseh Braves in the Regional.
