Claudia LaVerne Brosmer, 90, Jasper

C. LaVerne Brosmer, 90, of Jasper, died Wednesday, May 22, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in French Lick November 3, 1928, to Clarence and Alice (McKittrick) Palmer. She married Edgar W. Brosmer November 14, 1946, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Dubois. He died April 19, 2001.

LaVerne and her husband were owners and operators of Brosmer Lumber Company in Jasper for many years. She worked there as secretary and treasurer. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, the Jasper Circle of the Daughters of Isabella, and was a Stephen Minister. She was one of the founders of the Dubois County Humane Society, volunteered at the Dubois County Museum, and was a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer. She was a member of the Huntingburg Kiwanis Club and the National Federation of Business and Professional Womens Club. She loved animals, was a skilled seamstress, enjoyed drawing and painting, genealogy, and spending time with her friends and family.

She is survived by one daughter, Carroll Harder and husband Richard, Haubstaudt; one granddaughter, Kimberly Rivers and husband Joe, Albion, Illinois; and two great-grandchildren, Abbigayle and Cade Rivers.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three sisters, Doreen Mahan, Muriel English, and Delores DeWitt; and one brother, Jack Palmer.

Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to the Dubois County Humane Society, the Dubois County Museum, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial following in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in French Lick. Father William Traylor will officiate.
