Jasper Wildcats Win Class 3A Softball Sectional

Dubois (NNDC):   The Jasper Wildcats doubled up Pike Central in the Class 3A Softball Sectional Championship game on Wednesday night.   The host Wildcats jumped out early for a 2-0 lead before the Chargers bounced back to tie the game at 2 in the top half of the 5th inning.   Jasper answered back with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning and added two more in the 6th.   Pike Central was able to add to their run total in the 7th as Aubrie Dawson crossed the plate.   Mia Werner went the distance on the mound for the Cats and earned the win.   She allowed 3 runs on 4 hits and had 4 strikeouts.

The Southridge Raiders moved into the Class 2A Sectional Championship game with a dominating performance on Wednesday as the Raiders knock out the Spartans 12-0.   Myah Montgomery picked up the complete game victory for Southridge while striking out 11 Spartan batters.  Southridge will play Linton for the Class 2A Sectional title.  At Forest Park,  the Rangers struggled to contain Tecumseh as the Braves went on to a 12-2 win in five innings.   The Rangers end their 2019 campaign with a 14-8 record.

In high school baseball, Southridge held Mitchell hitless as the Raiders shutout the Bluejackets 11-0.  Ethan Bell was the winning pitcher for Southridge.   The Raiders will face North Knox in the semi’s on Monday.   The Forest Park Rangers were on the brink of bowing out of this years tournament before they came back and scored 7 unanswered runs on their way to a 10-8 win over Evansville Mater Dei.    Elliot Rothgerber earned the win on the mound for the Rangers.
