Norbert A. “Nip” Wehr, 85, Ireland

Norbert A. “Nip” Wehr, 85, of Ireland, died Thursday, May 16, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in Ireland July 23, 1933, to Edward and Helen (Renner) Wehr. He married Gloria Hochgesang February 23, 1954, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Nip worked for the State Highway Department and U.S. Railway and retired from Wehr’s Welding, which he owned for 37 years. He was also a farmer. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland and the International Bluegrass Association. He enjoyed playing the fiddle and played at many dances, weddings, and nursing homes. He won many contests and was the Indiana State Fiddling Champion. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Wehr; one daughter, Karen Trimborn and husband Bryan, Evansville; four sons, Marvin Wehr and wife Aurdrey, Ernest Wehr and wife Brenda, Stanley Wehr and wife Wilma, and John Wehr, all of Ireland; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eileen Vogler and husband Charles, Ireland, and Viola Howard, Bloomington; and one brother, Herman Wehr, Evansville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Richard Wehr, one daughter-in-law, Theresa Wehr, and one sister, Helene Matthews.

Friends may call from noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Mary’s Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery.
