Semi Crashes, Closes I 64 Near Ferdinand (UPDATED -Victim Identified)

Ferdinand (NNDC):

Shortly after noon on Thursday, Indiana State troopers responded to a fatal accident on I-64 west of Ferdinand near the 60-mile marker.

Preliminary investigation efforts revealed an eastbound vehicle driven by Terri Jo Kanter, 60, of Evansville drove off the north side of the roadway, crossed over the median and collided with a westbound 2016 semi being driven by Paul Reckner, 32, of Texas.

Kanter was killed in the crash near the 60-mile marker along a Spencer County and was deceased at the scene. Due to the severity of the crash, the victim could not be identified.

Multiple Indiana State Police Reconstructionists were at the site for more than 5 hours piecing together the events that lead up to the tragic incident.

Drugs or alcohol did not seem to be a factor but  Reckner was transported to a local hospital chemical testing, which is standard protocol for persons involved in an injury accident.  Recker was not injured in the incident.

The deceased’s vehicle was removed from the crash scene and taken to the Fire Department for examination to determine the potential cause of the crash.
