Norma J. Denning, 84, Petersburg

Norma J. Denning, 84, of Petersburg, died Monday, April 1, at her home. She was born in Franklin September 25, 1934, to George and Anna Mae (Gutgsell) Miller. She married Eugene F. “Bud” Denning January 20, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg. He died November 16, 2011.

Norma was a factory worker. She worked at Gossard’s Ladies Apparel in Huntingburg and other local factories. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the Huntingburg Fraternal Order of Eagles auxiliary, and the VFW Post 2366 auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Teresa Lechner and husband Larry, Stendal; one brother, David Miller, Oklahoma; two sisters, Peggy Bowers, California, and Jean Miles, Tennesee; six grandchildren, Ernie Fawks, Nick and Adam Merrimon, Racheal Leighty, Shawn Parks, and Rose Schoppenhorst; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death one son, Kenneth “Tree” Merrimon, one grandson, Heath Jacob Merrimon, and one brother, Charles Miller.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A VFW Post 2366 auxiliary vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a parish rosary prayer vigil at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to Somebody’s Place in Petersburg. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Church followed by burial in the church cemetery.
