Edward U. Hurst, 83, Mariah Hill

Edward U. Hurst, 83, of Mariah Hill, died Saturday, March 30, at his home. He was born in Ireland July 30, 1935, to Ben and Frances (Sander) Hurst. He married Almeda V. Oeding May 13, 1967, at St. Ferdinand Church.

Edward retired from Winkler Inc. as a truck driver. He served in the Indiana National Guard. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Mary Help Of Christians Church and the Mariah Hill YMI. He was an avid Los Angeles Dodgers and Indiana University basketball fan. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Almeda V. Hurst; two sons, Tom Hurst and wife Nola, Jasper and Jon Hurst, Dale; one daughter, one daughter, Jodi Hurst, Mariah Hill; three grandchildren, three grandchildren, Tyler, Cole, and Drew Gehlhausen; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Cy Gehlhausen; two brothers, Clarence Hurst, Huntingburg, and August Hurst and wife Gail, Jasper; and four sisters, Betty Berth, Kathy Buechlein and husband Dennis, Dorothy Mehringer and husband Vernon, and Helen Jacob and husband Don, all of Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Hile, one brother-in-law, John Berth, and one sister-in-law, Mildred Hurst.

Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. (CT) Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Mary Help of Christians Churchhurch. Memorial can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Heart to Heart Hospice. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery.
