Kitchen Fire Damages Local Home

Dubois County (NNDC):

The Dubois Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a fire Wednesday evening at a home between Hayesville and Dubois on SR 56.  Dispatch received the call just after 8:00 PM.

Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from and flames in the kitchen.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire with only fire extinguishers, water was not needed. The exact cause could not be determined because most of the equipment in the kitchen had been destroyed.

A couple in home at the time of the fire were able to escape without injury.

Firefighters ventilated the house and remove the stove. The home, however, sustained smoke damage and residue from the fire extinguishers covered a significant amount of the belongings inside.

The home is expected to be livable again after cleaning and repairs.

The couple had another place to stay for the night.

27 firefighters responded along with a crew from Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service.  They were on scene for approximately 1 hour.
