Dubois County Tied for Lowest Unemployment

Dubois County (NNDC):

Dubois County along with 3 other counties, tied for the lowest unemployment in the state in February.

Dubois and Gibson counties in the southwest corner of Indiana, and Boone and Hamilton counties north of Indianapolis each posted 3.1 percent unemployment in February. For Dubois and Gibson counties, that was up one-tenth from the previous month when they alone were tied for the top spot.

Rates in February for Dubois County’s eight neighboring counties were mixed with most unchanged or only up marginally; Crawford, 6.3 percent; Daviess, 3.3 perce; Martin, at 3.4 percent; Orange, 4.4 percent; Perry, 4.4 percent; Pike, 4.5 percent; Spencer, 4.3 percent; and Warrick, 3.5 percent.

The overall state rate in February was unchanged at 3.5 percent. According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development reported private sector employment has grown by 40,400 during the year, and 4,400 over the previous month, setting a new preliminary record.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development said Dubois County’s labor force consisted of 23,388 people in February — 22,656 of whom were employed. That left 732 classified as unemployed.
