Jenny L. Butler, 85, Celestine

Jenny L. Butler, 85, of Celestine, died Sunday, March 24, at the home of a daughter. She was born in Jasper September 17, 1933, to Alvin and Anna (Recker) Keller. She married Melvin Butler June 2, 1951. He died August 3, 2006.

Jenny was a graduate of Jasper High School. She retired as director of religious education for St. Celestine Catholic Church, a position she held for 20 years. She was also a homemaker and a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Church and its ladies sodality. She received the Simon Brute award in 1997 for her service in the Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Linne and husband Walter, Dubois, and Theresa Lampert and husband Mark, Huntingburg; three sons, Mike Butler and wife Janet, Jasper, Mark Butler and wife Kathy, Clayton, and Morris Butler, Dubois; one sister, Vera Preice and husband Robert, Indianapolis; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Butler, two sisters, Rosie Peters and Rita Cooper, and five brothers, Robert, John, Richard, Donny, and Charlie Keller.

Friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Isidore Parish or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
