Anna Mae Hopf, 84, Jasper

Anna Mae Hopf, 84, of Jasper, died Sunday, March 24, at her home. She was born in Jasper January 15, 1935, to Henry and Eleanor (Lechner) Stenftenagel. She married Alfred “Freddie” Hopf September 8, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Anna Mae was a lifetime farmer and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Church and its St. Anne’s Society and the Extension Homemakers Club. She enjoyed playing cards, especially with her grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred “Freddie” Hopf; three daughters, Kanda Merkley and husband Greg, Wadesville, Edie DeKemper-Chapman and husband Fred, Jasper, and Tracey Gutgsell and husband Patrick, Celestine; two sons, Brad Hopf and wife Rhonda and Rodney “Louie” Hopf and wife Katrina, all of Jasper; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Schitter and husband Kenny, Ruth Ann Beck, and Patty Mathies and husband Delbert, all of Jasper, and Lucy Recker and companion Bernie Hopf, Ferdinand; and two brothers, Joe Stenftenagel and wife Martha and Rich Stenftenagel and wife Helen, all of Jasper.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Oeding and Caroline Mehringer, and two brothers, Jim and Lucas Stenftenagel.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church. The St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 8:45 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church, the Dubois County Humane Society, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with burial following in Fairview Cemetery.
