High School Softball and Track Results

Dubois County (NNDC):  A chilly and soggy night for area athletes as the spring sports season is underway.   The Jasper Wildcats Softball team got back on the winning track as they hosted the Apollo Eagles (KY).    A pitchers dual ensued through the first 4 1/2 innings before Jasper got on the board in the bottom of the 5th when Kendyl Ruhe and Lexie Jerger crossed the plate.   The Eagles bounced back in the top of the 6th with a run of their own before adding 3 more in the top of the 7th, giving Apollo a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th.  Jasper tied the game when Madison Matheis hit a bases loaded single up the middle which scored 2 Wildcat runners.   Sophomore Hannah Schwenk loaded the bases for the Cats again with a single which brought Halli Leinenbach to the plate with a chance to win it for Jasper, and that’s exactly what she did.   Leinenbach was hit by a pitch which brought pinch runner Kendyl Ruhe home securing the 5-4 victory over the Eagles.    Jasper pitcher Mia Werner and the Wildcats are now 2-1 on the season.   Werner struck out 3, walked 2 and allowed 8 hits in the win.

In boys and girls track from Thursday night, Jasper hosted Springs Valley and South Spencer while Forest Park was at home and welcomed North Posey.   The Wildcats Boys and Girls teams earned an early season win over the Blackhawks and Rebels.   Forest Park picked up a conference win over the Vikings in Ferdinand.   First place finishers for the Rangers were Spencer Wolf (1600m, 3200m), Ethan Hall (800m),  Alex Weyer (300m hurdles), Corbin Bell (discus, shot put) and Ben Kluesner (pole vault) on the boys side while Lauren Jahn (long jump), Claire Mehling (1600m, 3200m), Maria Cruz (discus, shot put), Katelyn Englert (300m hurdles) and Josie Berg (400m dash) earned first place finishes for the girls.
