Wildcats and Raiders Win on the Softball Diamond

Dubois County (NNDC):  The Jasper Wildcats and Southridge Raiders Softball teams were in action on Monday night and both came away with victories.   Jasper was on the road to face the Linton Minors while Southridge hosted Springs Valley.   The Wildcats struck first and often as Jasper jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Linton plated 2 in the bottom of the 3rd inning.   The Wildcats responded with 3 in the top of the 4th and went on to an 18-6 victory in 6 innings over Linton.   Grace Colvin had a double and drove in 4 runs for Jasper.   Mia Werner,  Halli Leinenbach, Madison Matheis and Taylor Mitchell also doubled for the Cats.   Mia Werner earned a complete game victory on the opening night for Jasper Softball (1-0).   Werner struck out 6 and allowed 9 hits in the win.   Jasper is now 1-0 on the season.

The Southridge Raiders also opened the 2019 campaign on Monday night as they hosted the Springs Valley Blackhawks.   The Raiders are under 1st year Head Coach Scott Buening.   The Blackhawks jumped on the board with one run crossing the plate in the top of the first, but Southridge bounced back in the bottom of the inning as 2 Raiders crossed the plate, thanks to a home run by Kennedy Nalley.  Southridge put the game away in the 2nd inning as the Raiders had 8 runners cross the plate while adding another 3 in the third.   Springs Valley held Southridge scoreless in the fourth but couldn’t overcome the deficit despite scoring 2 runs in the top of the 5th, which led to a 13-3 five inning win for Southridge.   Lydia Genet picked up the win for Southridge (1-0).   Kennedy Nalley was hot offensively as she had a triple, homerun and knocked in 4 runs while Maddie Songer had a triple, 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s in the winning effort.   Southridge is 1-0 on the season.
