Adeline V. Mathies, 92, Dubois

Adeline V. Mathies, 92, of Dubois, died Sunday, March 17, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Dubois June 13, 1926, to Henry and Theresia (Mathias) Reker. Her first marriage was to Emil S. Kempf on August 10, 1948, at St. Celestine Catholic Church. He died March 21, 1955. She then married Elmer M. Mathies December 28, 1963. He died January 22, 2005.

Adeline was a homemaker and a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Raphael’s Campus. She taught religion at St. Raphael’s for many years, worked in the chicken houses in Dubois, and also babysat. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo, quilting, setting on her swing outside, and visiting and talking with family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Paulette Schilling and husband Bruce, Jasper, and Sharon Hoffman, French Lick; three sons, Donald Kempf and Michael and Paul Mathies, all of Dubois; three grandchildren, Joshua Kempf, Elizabeth Barretto, and Keyton Hoffman; one step granddaughter, Shalay Lampert; and five great-grandchildren, Jalen Richards, Madeline, Lillian and Colten Kempf, and Keola Barretto.

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by one daughter,  Rosemary Kempf, who died in infancy, one  son-in-law, Kurt Hoffman, four sisters, Clarissa Wilson, Emma Reker, Esther Schroering, and Hilda Nordhoff, and four brothers, Carl, Bill, Alois, and Joe Reker.

Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Isidore Parish or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at at St. Raphael’s Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
