Jerald Carl Schwartz, 88, Ft. Wayne

Jerald Carl Schwartz, 88, of Ft. Wayne, died Tuesday, March 12, at his home. He was born in Monon in 1930 to Arthur P. and Mildred N. (Beck) Schwartz. He married Jeanann (Knight) Condrey in 1957.

Jerald grew up in Huntingburg and attended Huntingburg High School where he was class president for four years and a National Merit Scholarship winner. He attended Indiana University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity (sergeant of arms) and ROTC, played alto saxophone in the Marching 100 band, and graduated with a BS in Business. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and was commissioned in the Army Corp of Engineers through 1961. He was on active duty for two years. He was employed by International Business Machines for 23 years, earning numerous company awards. He also worked for a number of other companies, including J. Lynne Associates, his daughter’s landscaping company, until he retired at the age of 87.

He is survived by one son, Jeffrey Schwartz; three daughters, Kathy Priem and husband Gary, Judy Nastally and husband Ron Furniss, and Amy Zieles and husband Michael; five grandchildren, Ian Nastally and wife Brigitte, Anastasia and Garrison Priem, and Mitchell and Sean Zieles; two brothers, Stanley and Arnold Schwartz; and one sister, Ruth Esarey and husband Alan.

Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Friday at the Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. A Celebration of Life service begins at 3 p.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in Fairmount Cemetery.
