William L. “Bill” Eckstein, 80, Jasper

William L. “Bill” Eckstein, 80, of Jasper, died Monday, March 11, at his home. He was born in Jasper April 12, 1938, to Bernard and Rose (Nolan) Eckstein. He married Barbara Kieser January 6, 1983, in Tennessee.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran serving on active duty from October 1955 to October 1959, and in the Reserves from October 1959 to October 1961. He was a professional mechanic in Connecticut and at Bob Luegers Motors in Jasper and a commercial truck driver, hauling steel, produce, and cargo for over 40 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and American Legion Post 147. Bill enjoyed driving his truck, working on cars, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and his dog, Holly.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbi Eckstein; two daughters, Victoria and Elizabeth Eckstein, both of East Hartford, Connecticut; one son, Jonathan Eckstein, Jasper; one step-daughter, Mary Petrakovitz, Houston, Texas; one step-son, Forest Kieser and wife Angie, Jasper; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara “Genie” Isom, Greenwood, and Irma Gudorf, Jasper; and one brother, Thomas “Butch” Eckstein and wife Joann, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and George “Buddy” Eckstein, and four sisters, Mildred “Millie” Stemle, Connie Sue “Susie” Egbert, Ruth Keller-Smith, and Joan Wolf.
