John A. Erny, 72, Ireland

John A. Erny, 72, of Ireland, died Saturday, March 9. He was born in Jasper December 5, 1946 to Aloysius “Woody” and Martina “Teeny” (Mendel) Erny. He married Sharon Leinenbach  April 23, 1966, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

John was an independent manufacture sales representative and a member of Jasper Outdoor Outdoor Recreation. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed coaching his children in youth sports. He was a Notre Dame fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Erny; one daughter, Shannon Jahn and husband David “Butch” Jahn; two sons, Jayme Erny, Ireland, and Brayden Erny and wife Jillian, Jasper; seven grandchildren, Meranda, Shelby, Crew, Hampton, and Hays Erny, and Boone and Ian Jahn; and three brothers, Gerald “Jerry” Erny and Melvin “Bud” Erny and wife Kathy, all of Vincennes, and James Erny and wife Janice, Port St. Lucie, Florida.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Judy Erny.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research  Foundation, Jasper Outdoor Recreation, or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.
