Imelda L. Whitten, 93, Huntingburg

Imelda L. Whitten, 93, of Huntingburg, died Thursday, February 28, at the Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. She was born in Huntingburg November 1, 1925, to John and Rosalie (Hess) Lasher. She married Robert F. Whitten November 10, He died December 1, 2011.

Imelda was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Huntingburg and the Daughters of Isabella. She was an accomplished vocalist and sang at numerous weddings and funerals. She loved to entertain, whether 58 years entertaining at the Y.M.I. Christmas parties or every Halloween when she would open her home and entertain the neighborhood children.

She is survived by two daughters, Jane Whitten, Los Angeles, and Amy Haxel and husband Leslie, Dallas, Texas; one son, Robert Whitten, Jr. and wife Karen, Jasper; two brothers, Richard Lasher, Gulfport, Mississippi and Charles Lasher, Lexington, Kentucky; one sister, Bernice Gerlach, of Huntingburg; and two grandchildren, Gabriella and Alexander Haxel.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Morgan, one infant son, John Whitten, one sister, Ardella Carson and one brother, John Lasher.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at St. Mary’s Church. Nass and Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg is in charge of arrangements.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Robert and Imelda Whitten Family Endowment, c/o The Dubois County Community Foundation or St. Mary’s Church.
