Frances Eileen Robberts, 95, Jasper

Frances Eileen Robberts, 95, of Jasper, died Sunday, February 10. She was born in Griswald, Iowa, June 23, 1923, to Charles and Jamie (Leasure) Cooper. She married Fredrick Robberts May 29, 1943.

Eileen was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Jasper. She was a school teacher and during World War II worked in the shipyards. She worked for Potter and Brumfield in Princeton, owned and operated the Country Store, and worked as a hostess at two Princeton hotels. She could play every instrument she picked up and could sing in a three octave range. She directed several church choirs and made a name for herself as a gospel singer.

She is survived by one son, Charles Fredrick “Fred” Robberts, one granddaughter, Rev. Leah and husband David Robberts-Mosser, two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Violet; many nieces and nephews; and one step-brother Charles.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, daughter-in-law Marilyn Hart Robberts, stepmothers Frances and Lucy, sisters Mary Louis Vajda, Betty Coker, Patricia “Chicken” Ross, and Nell Bliler, brother James Robberts; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Church of Christ.  A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Jane Hillman, will be held at 11 a.m. at the church.
