Veronica C. Heldman, 99, Celestine

Veronica C. Heldman, 99, of Celestine, died Friday, February 8, at Brookside Village Retirement Center in Jasper. She was born at Schellville July 9, 1919, to Bernard and Anna (Humbert) Theising. She married Barnabas Heldman November 10, 1943, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schnellville. He died December 20, 2009.

Veronica was a homemaker and a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Church, the St. Anne Sodality, and the Celestine Community Club. She taught religion at St. Celestine for over 25 years and served on the quilting committee.

She is survived by five daughters, Germaine Blessinger and husband Leo, Carolyn Schipp and husband David, Patricia Fleck and husband Charles, and Sherril Lueken and husband Greg, all of Jasper, and Kathleen Wibbeler and husband Jerry, Huntingburg; two sons, Gregory Heldman and wife Beth, Greenwood, and Kevin Heldman and wife Marilyn, Evansville; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Schmidt and husband Louis, Jasper; and sister-in-law Helen Theising, Schnellville.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Giesler and Dorothy Seger, and one brother, Hilbert Theising.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Celestine Catholic Church or to a favorite charity. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
