Martha F. Bateman, 72, Jasper

Martha F. Bateman, 72, of Jasper, died Friday, February 8, at The Timbers of Jasper. She was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, April 26, 1946, to Clyde and Mildred (Davis) Burris. She married Paul D. Bateman March 1, 1977, in the Church of Nazarene in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Martha worked as a substitute teacher in California, for Jasper Engines in Jasper,and as a receptionist at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was an active member of the Church of Nazarene in Jasper and enjoyed traveling, meeting new people, and spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Bateman; three daughters, Rebecca Parker, Richmond, Virginia, Dayna Bender, Tell City, and Miranda Moyer and husband Randy, Evansville; two sons, Tracy Bateman and wife Stacy, Hawesville, Kentucky, and Jonathan Bateman and wife Julia, Jasper; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyliss Burris and Dawna Townsend, both of Texas; and two brothers, John and Daniel Burris, both of Texas.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Gonzales, two grandchildren, two grandchildren, Megan Gonzales and Ariel Bateman, and two brothers, James and Paul Burris.

Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to the Jasper Church of the Nazarene or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A memorial service will be held at  5 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial following at a later date. Pastor Mike Suits will officiate.
