Elsie E. Hutcherson, 89, Jasper

Elsie E. Hutcherson, 89, of Jasper, died Saturday, January 5, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. She was born May 8, 1929, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, to Luther and Ethyle (Pruitt) Short. She married Elzie E. Hutcherson December 24, 1946, in Indianapolis. He died June 1988.

Elsie worked as one of the first female engineers for Western Electric Company in Indianapolis where she designed and built the first Princess telephone.¬†She also volunteered for the Ethyl Kennedy Children’s Olympics, was a member of the Church of Christ and the Indianapolis Indian Lake Association, and enjoyed animals and working with children.

She is survived by one daughter, Caroline Jones and husband Mike, Jasper; two sisters; and one brother.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Jim Hutcherson, and 10 brothers and sisters.
