Dennis Knies, 88, St. Anthony

Dennis Knies, 88, of St. Anthony, died Friday, December 28, at Cathedral Health Care in Jasper. He was born in Celestine August 10, 1930, to Bernard and Alberta (Heldman) Knies. He married Ruth Persohn. She died December 30, 1998.

Dennis was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean conflict. He was a member of St. Anthony American Legion Post 493 where he served as past commander. He retired from Kimball (formerly the Jasper Corporation). He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish- St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was founder and co-owner of DML Electronics in Huntingburg, a founding member of the St. Anthony Fire Department, and a life member of  the Indiana  Firefighters Association. He previously worked for St. Anthony Parish and the Hasenour Motor Company.

He is survived by one daughter, Jolene Davis and husband John, Huntingburg; two sons, Glenn Knies and wife Karen, and Tim Knies and wife Yvonne, all of Huntingburg; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosetta Hasenour, Connie Schoering, and Sharon Burger and husband Jerry, all of Jasper; six brothers, Albert Knies, Huntingburg, Paul Knies and wife Carol and Perry Knies and wife Jane, all of Jasper, and Virgil Knies and wife Frances, Bernard Knies and wife Diane, and Randall Knies and wife Janice, all of Celestine, and sisters in law Bernice and Bonnnie Knies.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest, Vernon, Jerome, and James Knies, and two brothers in law, Delmar Schroering and Anthony “Tony” Hasenour.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony Church. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery. St. Anthony American Legion Post 493 will conduct military graveside rites.
