Marie S. Mullen, 90, St. Anthony

Marie S. Mullen, 90, of St. Anthony, died Monday, December 24, at Scenic Hills Health Care in Ferdinand. She was born in St. Anthony May 2, 1928, to Theodore and Laura (Striegel) Bieker. She married Hilbert E. Mullen Sr. April 24, 1948. He died March 17, 2003.

Marie was a homemaker and a member of Divine Mercy Parish- St. Anthony Church. She worked for Hoosier Desk Company in Jasper and was a member of the St. Anthony American Legion Auxiliary. She survived a car-train accident at St. Marks on August 24, 1930, that took the lives of six members of her family.

She is survived by five daughters, Laura Reckelhoff and husband Paul, St. Anthony, Rita Fields, Kyana, Paula Sabelhaus and husband Victor, Carroll, Ohio, Valerie Schoppenhurst and husband Steven, Huntingburg, and Cecelia Olinger, Charlestown; three sons, Hilbert Mullen Jr. and wife Janet, Ferdinand, and John E. Mullen and wife Lucy and Lee Joe Mullen and wife Sherry, all of Kyana; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lauretta Prechtel, Santa Claus.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandson and three sisters, Leola and Bernice Bieker, who died in the 1930 car-train accident, and Ruthie Klem, and one brother, Theodore Bieker II.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony Church. Funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with burial following in the church cemetery. Becher Fuenral Home in Ferdinand is in charge of arrangements.
