William O’Neil “Neil” Labhart, 81, Jasper

William O’Neil “Neil” Labhart, 81, of Jasper, died Monday, December 24, at his home. He was born in Jasper October 6, 1937, to William Julius and Agnes Marie (Howell) Labhart. He married Mary Catherine “Kate” Schroeder April 12, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper.

Neil was a U.S. Marine veteran. He retired from Breidenbaugh Brothers as a diesel mechanic and from Jasper Engines where he worked in the warranty department. He also worked part time for Buffalo Trace Golf Course. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Jasper Moose Lodge 1175, and Jasper Outdoor Recreation. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, spending time at Beaver Lake, planting flower gardens, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Kate Labhart; one son, William “Dean” Labhart and wife Brenda, Jasper; one daughter, LaDonna Werner and husband Larry, Ireland; five grandchildren, Brandon and Travis Werner, Holly Hynes, William Labhart, and Leslie Meyer; two step grandchildren, Shanda Phillips and Danielle Wendholt; four great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte Cockerham, and one great-granddaughter, Sophie Meyer.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. Jasper Moose Lodge 1175 will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite

charity. A Mass of Christian Burial  will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church with entombment following in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
