Rosemary “Rosie” Denu, 89, Dubois

Rosemary “Rosie” Denu, 89, of Dubois, died Saturday, December 15, at Walnut Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Unit in Evansville. She was born in Ellsworth December 23, 1928, to John and Anna (Hasenour) Pieper. She married Hilmar Denu September 1, 1951, at St. Celestine Catholic Church in Celestine.

Rosie worked for over 25 years at Wabash Valley Produce and retired in 1995. She was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Raphael Campus in Dubois where she was a member of its St. Anne’s Sodality and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Hilmar Denu; four daughters, Sharon Pizzato and husband Allan, Birmingham, Alabama, Diane Knies and husband Bernie, Celestine, and Alice Schitter and husband Rick and Nancy Mendel and husband Patrick, all of Ireland; one son, Daniel (Diane Knies’ twin) and wife Cheryl, Jasper; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Loretta Wise, Louisville; and one brother, Bernard Pieper and wife Phyllis, Dubois.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Pieper, and four brothers, Eugene and Albert Pieper and infants Edward and Victor Pieper.

Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Anne’s Sodality of St. Isidore Parish will pray a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Isidore Parish, the Dubois County Museum, the Dubois Ruritan Club Community Center Endowment, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Raphael Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
