Charles L. “Pete” Armstrong, 82, Jasper

Charles L. “Pete” Armstrong, 82, of Jasper, died Sunday, December 9, at his home. He was born in Ireland August 28, 1936, to Milton and Geneva (Kearby) Armstrong. He married Mary Ann Herzog September 27, 1958, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper.

Pete retired from Kimball. He also worked for JOFCO and delivered for Meals on Wheels for many years. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper. He was an outstanding athlete in his younger years, a star basketball and baseball player at Ireland High School. He enjoyed watching sports (especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Indiana University Hoosiers), playing cards, fishing, and watching westerns.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Armstrong; two daughters, Nan Armstrong and husband Jack and Kim Armstrong, all of Jasper; two grandchildren, Cody Schnell and husband Jason and Tess Kempf and husband Jordan; four great-grandchildren, Carly and Cash Schnell and Austin and Cort Kempf; three sisters, Judy Crane, Palmdale, California, Esther Grundhoeffer and husband Kenny, Evansville, and Linda Beard, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Hilma Stenftenagel and Lillian Eckert, and four brothers, Lester, Howard, and Donald Armstrong, and one brother who died in infancy.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund or to a favorite charity.
