Jerome O. Nordhoff, 77, Birdseye

Jerome O. Nordhoff, 77, of Birdseye, died Wednesday, December 5, at Cathedral Health Care in Jasper. He was born in Celestine June 5, 1941, to Frank G. and Philomena M. “Minnie” (Hasenour) Nordhoff. He married Rita Laake August 26, 1967, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.

Jerome was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Vietnam. He was owner and operator of Jerome’s Home Construction Company. He was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Sacred Heart Campus, Schnellville, Builders Association of Dubois County, St. Anthony Conservation Club, and American Legion Post 147 in Jasper. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and good times with family.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Nordhoff; one daughter, Ruth Vanwinkle and husbgand David, Birdseye; one son, Jerome Nordhoff Jr. and wife Michelle, Jasper; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Klem Weyer and Vernita Klem and husband Alvin, all of St. Anthony, and Marilyn Fleck and husband Tom, Huntingburg; fhree brothers, Clarence Nordhoff and wife Verena, Celestine, Robert Nordhoff and wife Janice, Jasper, and Herbert Nordhoff; and sister-in-law Pat Nordhoff, Ferdinand.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters who died in infancy and one brother, Norbert F. Nordhoff.

Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Schellville. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the wishes of the family. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church with burial following in the church cemetery. American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites.
