James E. Mehringer, 81, Jasper

James E. Mehringer, 81, of Jasper, died Wednesday, November 28, at Memorial Hospital and Healthcare Center in Jasper. He was born in Jasper July 28,  1937 to Otto and Agnes (Heichelbech) Mehringer. He married Donna Wagner October 15, 1959, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland. She died October 1, 2009.

Jim served in the Indiana Army National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post 147 in Jasper. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church in Jasper, the Ireland Knights of Columbus, and the Ireland Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed farming and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry Mehringer and wife Vicky and Rod Mehringer and wife Bonnie, all of Jasper, and  Tony Mehringer and wife Paula, Rockford, Illinois; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Dennis Mehringer and wife Elaine, Jasper, and Virgil Mehringer and wife Penny, Otwell; and special friend Verena Fortwendel, Jasper.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Mehringer, and his parents, Otto and Agnes Mehringer.

Friends may call from noon-6 p.m. Sunday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper and from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Precious Blood Church. The Ireland Knights of Columbus will conduct a memorial service at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Precious Blood Church, the Ireland K of C, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial  will be held at noon Monday at the church with entombment following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum.
