George W. “Bill” Haycox, 87, Jasper

George W. “Bill” Haycox, 87, of Jasper, died Tuesday, November 27, at his home. He was born near Otwell in Pike County July 24, 1931, to James E. and Myrtle (Schnarr) Haycox. He married Mary F. Booth October 12, 1957. She died June 25, 2010.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Germany during the Korean conflict era. He worked in woodworking at Kimball for over 35 years. He was a former member of VFW Post 673 and American Legion Post 147. He enjoyed playing horseshoes and was an avid fan  of the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by two sisters, Anna Hedrick, Washington, and  Hazel (Ishmael) Whitney and husband Ishmael, Mooresville; brother-in-law Roy Raney, Jasper, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Kamplain and Ethel Raney, and one brother, James Haycox.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to the wishes of the family or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial following in Portersville Cemetery. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
