Jasper opens Boys Basketball Season with a win

Dubois County (NNDC):   The Jasper Wildcats Boys Basketball team opened up the 2018-19 campaign on Tuesday night at home with Evansville Harrison.   It was back and forth for most of the first quarter with Evansville taking a 9 point lead midway thru  before Jasper went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter with Harrison holding on to a 5 point lead heading into the 2nd.   That’s when the Jasper defense took over and held Harrison to just 5 points for the remainder of the half while Jaspers offense knocked down 20 which gave the Wildcats a 10 point cushion at the break.   The 2nd half saw Jasper outscoring Harrison by 3 which would lead to a 73-60 win for the Wildcats.   Jackson Kabrick led Jasper with 23 points.   The Wildcats are 1-0 on the season and will travel to Gibson Southern on Tuesday to face the Titans.

In Girls Basketball from Tuesday night,  the Forest Park Rangers visited Evansville Mater Dei and despite outscoring the Wildcats 17-8 in the 4th quarter, the Rangers fell to 2-4 on the season with a 50-44 loss.   Kenlee Gehlhausen led the Rangers with 11 points while freshman Ali Welp knocked down 9.   Next up for the Rangers is Southridge as the Raiders will host Forest Park on Tuesday night with a 7:30pm varsity tip.
