Raiders Football Stymied by Western Boone Defense, End Tournament Run

Thornthown (NNDC):   The Southridge Raiders Football team entered the Class 2A Semi-State one win away from a return trip to Lucas Oil Stadium and a chance to defend their State Title.   Their opponent, Class 2A #1 ranked and undefeated Western Boone had other plans for Southridge.   On a game broadcasted live here on News Now Dubois County, the Western Boone defense kept Southridge in check for almost the entire game, only allowing the Raiders to get into the end zone 1 time.    The lone Southridge touchdown came at the 2:21 mark in the 2nd quarter as Tucker Schank crossed the goal line with a 1 yard run that allowed the Raiders to get back into the ball game.   Southridge kicker Jeovany Dubon hit the extra point, pulling the Raiders within a touchdown.

The Stars of Western Boone entered halftime with a 21-7 lead over Southridge following another touchdown on a 24 yard keeper by QB Spencer Wright with less than a minute left in the half.    In the 2nd half, it was all Western Boone as the Stars defense held Southridge QB Colson Montgomery contained for the remainder of the game.   The Raiders would fall 48-7 as the dominate Western Boone defense held Southridge to only four first downs the entire game, and scoreless in the 2nd half.

With the win, Western Boone (14-0) advances to the Class 2A State Championship Game Friday night and will face #5 Eastbrook who defeated Bremen 34-33 on Friday night.   Southridge ends their season with a 10-4 record.
