Dennis O. “Peanut” Opel, 76, Jasper

Dennis  O. “Peanut” Opel, 76, of Jasper, died Sunday, November 4, at The Timbers of Jasper. He was born in Jasper July 5, 1942, to Lee F. and Florence (Street) Opel.

Peanut was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of VFW Post No. 673 and American Legion Post No. 147. He was also a member of Jasper Moose Lodge No. 1175. He worked for many years for Kimball International and retired from Dubois Wood Products. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Jacob and husband Nathan and Susan  Nicastro and husband Phil, all of Jasper; three sons, Brian Opel, Chandler, and Mark and Daniel Opel, both of Jasper; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Meyer, Jasper; and one brother, George Opel and wife Pat, Haysville.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Donald Opel.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Jasper Moose Lodge will perform a memorial service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial following in the Community Cemetery in Haysville. Pastor Tim Holt will officiate. VFW Post 673 will conduct military graveside rites.
