David L. Stemle, 79, Celestine

David L. Stemle, 79, of Celestine, died Sunday, November 4, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. He was born in Celestine February 21, 1939, to Otto “Jim” and Esther (Schulz) Stemle. He married Doris J. Schuetter November 19, 1959, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ireland.

David was a lifelong farmer in the Celestine area. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Campus and the Celestine Community Club. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Stemle; two daughters, Denise Betz and husband Gary, Schnellville, and Kimberly Smith and husband Robert, Brownsburg; two sons, Randy Stemle and wife Tama and Myron Stemle and wife Connie, all of Celestine; nine grandchildren; five great-grand children; one sister, Sylvia Schepers, San Diego, California; and one brother, Steve Stemle and wife Grace, Derby.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Stemle.

Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The St. Isidore Parish members will lead a rosary at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Celestine Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
