Southridge Raiders repeat as Sectional Champions

Huntingburg (NNDC):  The Southridge Raiders and the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats battled it out on Raider Field Friday night for the Class 2A Football Sectional Title.   A game reminiscent of last years Sectional Championship game which saw these same two teams fight for the title at the Reitz Bowl, this hard fought contest was played at Southridge giving the Raider players and fans an opportunity to celebrate on their own field.   The Raiders are now 9-3 on the season.
It’s no surprise to anyone that this years title tilt would be a hard fought, back and forth game which saw Class 2A #10 Southridge come out on top 35-25, ending Mater Dei’s season two years in a row.  With the win, Southridge advances to Regional play to face the Paoli Rams.   The Rams (Class 2A #7) will enter the contest undefeated with a 12-0 record following their 21-17 Sectional Championship win over Providence.
In other Dubois County Sports from Friday night, the NE Dubois Lady Jeeps opened up their 2018-19 Basketball season with a loss to Heritage Hills 46-15.   Madison Cave led the Jeeps with 10 points.
A light sports schedule is set for Saturday as the Southridge Lady Raiders (0-1) travel to Paoli to face the Rams with a 6pm Junior Varsity tip.
