Marie L. Gessner, 88, Ferdinand

Marie L. Gessner, 88, of Ferdinand, died Thursday, October 18, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. She was born in St. Henry November 12, 1929, to Paul and Anna (Moeller) Oeding. She married Oscar Gessner October 6, 1951, at St. Henry. He died April 8, 1979.

Marie was retired from Best Chairs and was a cook at Kordes Hall. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, and playing cards.

She is survived by four sons, Frank Gessner and wife Marie, Ferdinand, of Ferdinand, Allan Gessner and wife, Bonnie, Jasper, Mark Gessner and wife Joyce, Celestine, and Tony Gessner and wife Donna, St. Meinrad; five daughters, Carol Meyer and husband Bill, Martha Hempfling and husband Jerry, and Paula Vonderheide and husband Tom, all of Ferdinand, Marlene Gehlhausen and husband Roch, Jasper and Clara Tempel and husband Lee Ray, St. Meinrad; one brother, Edgar Oeding and wife Mildred, Jasper; 22 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by six brothers, Gregory, Benard, Ralph, Roman, Linus and Leo Oeding, and three sisters, Helen Hopf and Rose and Cecila Kersteins.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Sunday and from 7-9:30 a.m. Monday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral services 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ferdinand Church with burial following in St. Meinrad Cemetery.
