Norman Celestine Schue, 82, Ferdinand

Norman Celestine Schue, 82, of Ferdinand, died Saturday, October 6, at his home. He was born in Mariah Hill September 27, 1936, to Paul and Catherine (Vaeth) Schue. He married Leona Kitten January 10, 1959, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

Norman was a retired coal miner and farmer. He was a member of Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, and its St. Joseph’s Sodality. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of Santa Claus Legion Post 242. He was a member of the Mariah Hill YMI and a former 4-H leader. He was recipient of the 2010 Conservation Farmer of the Year Award and enjoyed his farm, dogs, children, and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Leona Schue; four sons, Paul Schue and wife Jenell, Huntingburg, Scott Schue and wife Gina, Evansville, Jeff Schue, Dale, and Eric Schue and wife Audra, Jasper; four daughters, Norma Kreilein and husband Michael and Audrey Fischer and husband Scott, all of Jasper, Valerie Hassfurther, Ferdinand, and Gayla Sliwa, Cicero; 15 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, eight step great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Sue Reynolds and Paulita Pund, both of Mariah Hill, and Nellie Ebert and husband Fred, Ferdinand.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Schue, two brothers, John and Leo Schue, and one sister, Sylvia Obermeier.
