James K. “Jim” Vaughn, 94, Jasper

James K. “Jim” Vaughn, 94, of Jasper, died Wednesday, October 3, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper. He was born in Speedwell, Virginia, October 21, 1923, to Walter and Pearlie Vaughn. He married Rita O. Sermersheim May 20, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. She died December 24, 2011.

Jim was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served in World War II. He was a retired brick mason and also worked at the Jasper Municipal, Sultan’s Run, and French Lick golf courses. He was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Indiana/Kentucky BAC Union, American Legion Post No. 147, Jasper Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Police, Jasper Outdoor REC, and the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Indiana University basketball fan.

He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Gehlhausen, Jasper; one son, Donald Vaughn, Jasper; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by one sister, Florence Hensley.

Friends may call from 9:3011 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at www.becherkluesner.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial following in the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. American Legion Post 147 will conduct military graveside rites
