Lavella E. Singer, 88, Jasper

Lavella E. Singer, 88, of Jasper, died Friday, September 28, at Brookside Village in Jasper. She was born at home on a farm in Dubois County July 24, 1930, to Elmer P. and Margaret (Braun) Fuhrman. She married Paul (Cotton) Singer October 25, 1969, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jasper.

Lavella was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She and her husband met while they were both employees of Fritch’s Dutch Lunch in Jasper. They purchased the restaurant from the Fritch family and renamed it “The Headquarters.” Following their retirement they spent 15 years enjoying the winter months at their home in Ft. Myers, Florida. She enjoyed gardening, golf, bowling, church activities, family gatherings, and serving others.

She is survived by two sisters, Luetta Mercier and husband George, Bloomington, and Ruth Elkins, Anderson; one brother, Luther Fuhrman, Shoals; sister-in-law Ellen Fuhrman, Jasper; and nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Emil Fuhrman, one brother-in-law, George Elkins, and two nephews, Roger Fuhrman and Tim Mercier.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Church. Memorial contributions can be made to Redeemer Church or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with burial following in St. Paul Cemetery in Haysville. Pastor Adam Ruschau will officiate.
