Robert J. Schepers, 69, Celestine

Robert J. Schepers, 69, of Celestine, died Monday, September 17, at his home. He was born in Celestine September 13, 1949, to Roman and Leona (Fromme) Schepers. He married Annette M. Braunecker August 9, 1975, at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Robert was a 52 year employee at Jasper Engines and Transmissions. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish – St. Celestine Campus, the Celestine Community Club, and the Good Shepherd of the Hills Knights of Columbus. He was the 2013 recipient of the Celestine Distinguished Citizen Award. He enjoyed camping, hunting, cutting firewood, volunteering at the Celestine Community Club, and spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Annette M. Schepers; one son, Kurt Schepers and wife Roxanne, Jasper; two daughters, Stacy McCracken, Celestine, and Kimberly Bayer and husband Vanis, Jasper; four grandchildren, Gabrielle and Gaige Schepers, Chloe
McCracken, and Haley Bayer; six sisters, Sr. Mary Ann Schepers, OSB, and Rosie Brinkman, both of Ferdinand, Dorothy Schepers, Loogootee, , Bertha Merkley and husband Jerry, Henrietta “Susie” Baglan, and Virlee Hams, all of Jasper; two brothers, Jerry Schepers and wife Diana, Newburgh, and Alan Schepers and wife Phyllis, Celestine; and brother-in-law Wilfred Brinkman, Jasper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Darlene Brinkman.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Wednessday at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Isidore Parish, the Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, or to a favorite charity. Online condolences can be shared at A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Celestine Church with burial following in the church cemetery.
