Verlyn E. Gehlhausen, 54, Huntingburg

Verlyn E. Gehlhausen, 54, of Huntingburg, died Friday (September 7) at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper. He was born in Huntingburg December 25, 1963, to Eugene and Virlee (Braunecker) Gehlhausen. He married Rita Prueher July 4, 1987, at St. Meinrad Catholic Church.

Verlyn was a skilled laborer. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, fishing, playing guitar, and taxidermy. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was a lifelong member of Divine Mercy Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Church and a member of the St. Anthony Community Center. He gave the gift of life by choosing to be an organ donor.

He is survived by his wife, Rita; of Huntingburg; two sons, Brandon (Bethany) Gehlhausen and wife Bethany, Dubois, and Noah Gehlhausen at home; one daughter, Kaci Gutgsell and husband Kyle, Birdseye; his father, Eugene Gehlhausen, Huntingburg; two sisters, Charlene Fleck and husband Robert and Cindy Bueltel, all of Huntingburg; and three grandchildren, Lexi and Ella Gehlhausen and Oliver Gutgsell.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virlee Gehlhausen, and one brother, Randy Gehlhausen.

Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Church.
