Sylvia M. Schmitt, 83, Jasper

Sylvia M. Schmitt, 83, of Jasper, died Saturday (August 25) at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Florida. She was born in Indianapolis August 15, 1935, to Loren and Lucille (Klueh) Cherry. She married Henry C. Schmitt Jr. August 22, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. He died February 10, 1999.

Sylvia worked for local woodworking manufacturers and various retail stores in Jasper. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, game shows – especially Wheel of Fortune, Family Feud, and Jeopardy -, playing cards, and spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She was a great cook and enjoyed her family gatherings.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathy Cremaschi and husband Richard, Bradenton, Florida; seven sons, Steve Schmitt and wife Barb, Mark Schmitt, and Doug Schmitt and wife Margaret, all of Jasper; Tom, Jerry, and Larry Schmitt, all of Bradenton, Florida, and Anthony K. Schmitt and wife Cynthia, Huntingburg; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and one brother, Paul Cherry and wife Sue, Parrish, Kentucky.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brother, Dennis and Donald Cherry.

Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Church or to a favorite charity.
