Marcella “Sally” Rees, 93, Jasper

Marcella “Sally” Rees, 93, of Jasper, died Sunday (August 19) at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper. She was born in Jasper July 5, 1925, to Bernard and Clarissa (Steffen) Kreilein. She married Robert “Cotton” Gunselman October 26, 1949. He died October 20, 1970. She married Clarence Rees November 29, 1980. He died June 18, 2006.

Sally worked as a clerical secretary in the superintendant’s office of the Greater Jasper Consolidated School Corporation for many years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Jasper Daughters of Isabella, St. Anne’s Society, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Psi Iota Psi, and the Jasper Women of the Moose. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing, and doing arts and crafts. She spent many hours volunteering for various organizations.

She is survived by two sons, John (Marilyn) Gunselman and wife Marilyn and Jeff Gunselman and wife Sharon, all of Jasper; four grandchildren, Andrew, Luke, and Hannah Gunselman and Alli Spence; one great-granddaughter, Claire Gunselman; two sisters, Louise Schitter and husband Levines and Florence Angerer and husband Delbert, all of Jasper; and two brothers, Dennis Kreilein and wife Virlee and Kenneth Kreilein and wife Marge, Celestine.

In addition to her parents and husbands she was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Mae Messier, Alberta Kreilein, and an infant, Joan Kreilien.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Jasper D of I and St. Anne’s Society will pray a rosary at 2:45 p.m. and the American Legion Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
